Way Too Much About Me

I was born in Dalton, Georgia, July 1981. Since that time I have spent most of my energy growing up, and plan to become an adult in the next ten to fifteen years. I have lived in the same place my entire life with no intentions of moving very far from the mountains and ridges of Northwest Georgia.

At age five I began attending public school, but after 3 1/2 years of forced kickball tournaments in the August heat, shirt-stapling substitute teachers, arrogant administrators, and 20-year-old "teachers" with no clue about teaching, my parents finally got the message and began homeschooling my younger sister and I.

After completing school in 1998 I wasted a year at Northwestern Technical Institute (formerly Walker Tech, now Northwestern Technical College - but still a hole in the ground tech school no matter what they name it) and worked a variety of jobs. I spent December 1999 as a UPS holiday temp and had the time of my life riding around in the Big Brown Truck delivering Christmas. Then I worked as a hospital radiology film librarian, made a lot of people mad because I was outworking them, and was fired after seven months because of exaggerated tales blown up by my coworkers. I spent December 2000 back in brown, playing Santa again for UPS.

It was at that point I realized I wouldn't ever do much better than temporary jobs without improving my education, so I started going through the process of signing up for a real college. After months of fighting the system and looking for loopholes I finally found a friend inside Dalton State College and convinced the University System of Georgia that homeschoolers are people too. I started at Dalton during the Summer semester of 2001 and have been a full-time student there ever since.

I started working for the college in Fall 2001 and in March 2002 became Webmaster for the school's division of business. That job allowed me to employ my limited artistic abilities and some of the skills I picked up while creating Web sites as a hobby. Sadly, state budget cuts and several administrative changes led to my position being eliminated in August 2003. My goal at DSC now is to graduate with a BBA degree in Management. I still spend my free time working online and doing charity work with area churches.
